Advisory Committee on Medical Imaging
Membership on the Advisory Committee on Medical Imaging (ACMI) includes Radiologists, an Obstetrician, a Nuclear Medicine Physician, Medical Radiation Technologists and representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour.
The objectives of the committee are to:
- study and advise on the best possible, safe and required imaging services,
- consider the economic implications involved in the provision of such services,
- advise Saskatchewan Health and/or Health Authorities on medical imaging equipment,
- establish and administer a quality assurance program for diagnostic imaging services.
To meet these objectives the committee:
- has established standards for quality medical imaging services,
- has established guidelines for the appropriate and proper use of imaging equipment,
- has established an audit program for physicians who perform and/or interpret imaging services,
- provides advice on manpower and equipment needs,
- provides advice on the appropriate use of imaging services and their impact on the cost of medical imaging services,
- offers advice on credentialing of physicians who perform imaging services.
The committee is represented on the provincial Drug Imaging Network (DIN) and Operation Information Technology Subcommittee (OITS) to advise Government on the improvement of medical imaging services in Saskatchewan. The DIN committee provides reports to the ACMI and may request advice from the ACMI.
The ACMI meets quarterly.
