| Superstitions & Beliefs Surrounding Ties
Yes, like everything else in this world there are superstitions surrounding ties and how well you tie your tie. Here are some of the ones I have run across. - Never wear a green/black tie to an important business meeting. It may bring bad luck in your negotiations. - Wearing a tie with a stain is a bad thing, for it may invite misfortune. - Do not wearer a tie with a silly or foolish design on it to an important social event of a serious nature. Unless you are the most important person there, then you have license to draw attention to yourself. - Especially do not wear a silly looking tie to a funeral, unless you know the deceased would appreciate the humor in it. - Clip-on ties are NOT cool. Being caught wearing one is an embarrassment. - Ready made bow ties are generally acceptable, but being able to tie your own bow tie is a point of pride and envy of your peers. - A poorly tied tie, marks you out as an amateur. - Wearing a tie that's too narrow or too wide for the fashion of the year singles you out as foolish. - A tie with red in it, is a symbol of strength and fortitude. More likely to herald success in business. - Blue ties are said to give the wearer an edge with the ladies. - Do not wearer a purple tie to an opera, it may bring an illness to a loved one. |
